Kolkata-City Of Joy


Kolkata the capital of West Bengal(one of the states of unified INDIA) located on the eastern banks of Hooghly river .Its ranks among the four major metropolis(Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai among others).Kolkata was the erstwhile capital during the British period until 1911 when Delhi was christened as the capital of India.

Kolkata is a city which has more than 300 year old heritage with a rich mix of culture.Kolkatans warmly embraces everyone who drops by Kolkata. The city signifies indomitable sprit for its leaders and followers alike. The city is home to many noteworthy persons including Nobel Laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore, Amartya Sen and Oscar-winner Satyajit Ray.

MODE of TRANSPORT

Roads are potholed, dusty if you’re planning for a road trip then better prepare yourself coz there are traffic snarls here and there and you may end up waiting in your ride weekends are best for a ride across the city. The subway is totally different though;

Metro Railways introduced way early than any other metropolitan is sure boon it takes you to your destination without any traffic and hassle. The city also boasts yellow ambassador cabs whose charges are nominal and it can be spotted everywhere in Kolkata.Another plus is tramways which lets you ride through time and relive a nostalgic era of the forgotten past. Shahid Minar, Indian Museum, Birla planetarium, St.Pauls Cathedral ,Victoria Memorial, Nandan are in close proximity to the heart of Kolkata i.e., ESPLANADE. Dalhousie houses the GPO, Writers building and offices of major business houses of Kolkata.

Sight seeing trips are arranged by West Bengal Tourism @Rs.200 per person while a private ride on a hired taxi would cost anywhere between Rs600-Rs800 depending on the number of sites covered
